5-26 fishing report

Thursday, May 27th, 2010

Started out with a trip to the east side of Sarasota bay. Pulled some Spotted sea trout off the first flat. Then we fished a good snook hole, But It had been taken over by overslot redfish. After a few of these line rippers. My customer wanted to show his wife what a Tarpon looked like and see about hooking one.. I was happy to please, we made our run. On the way I spotted 2 manatees in clear water, so his wife really enjoyed watching them for a bit. The water was calm and clear. Schools of bait fish and the great spotted eagle rays effortlessly glided just under the top of the water. We could see a Tarpon break here and there, we just continued to observe. Then 2 fish came to the surface, I could see the dark spot under them. This was the way we wanted it. As I positioned the boat to intercept them a pleasure craft came down the beach and yep a fish broke the surface about 25 feet before the boat went over them.. So again the wait was on. After about 5 min. I could see a dark spot in the water closer to us. This might be the fish I said, I casted a bait just past the spot and as I was handing the rod to my client. I was just able to get a hand on the bottom of the rod as it went by me. By the time I got both hands on the rod we had a 100+ pound Tarpon in the air. This was a great fish, it jumped 5 times higher then our heads in the first 10 min. We could hear the people on the beach behind us hooting and hollering everytime the fish left the water. About 30 min into the fight and a mile off the beach now. My customer has had enough, the fish has come by the boat giving us a great view of it. We broke it off. And started heading back to the dock. Trout, redfish and a tarpon, it had been a great 3 hours of fishing. His wife said, she enjoyed it so much she wishes she had come with him when he asked her before, she will be back. She never touched a fishing rod, but the peace of the water and the things she got to see were amazing.

Saturday, May 22nd, 2010

The Tarpon are here, in the last 2 days we have hooked 6. Large seaturtles and The greatSpotted Eagle Rays are running the beach add Tarpon breaching and it is a great trip. Have not done much for Bay fishing this week. But have been listening to the drag scream for hours, I hear it in my sleep. Explains why I am waking up with a smile..lol.. If you do not know, these fish are 5 to 7 ft long, 80 to 150 lbs. of silver jumping fighting fish. They break the surface to gulp air. We also have the Snook on the beaches and redfish on the flats.. It is just a amazing trip…

May fishing report

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

It has started out as a great month, in one 4 hour trips we did over a dozen snook, throw some redfish and spotted seatrout in the pot with it. All the capt. agree non of us have ever seen the amount of small sharks in the bay right now, they do not want anything to do with people, but provide a great fight on light tackle. We are getting kings off the beach, the schools of jacks are comin in, pound for pound, one of the hardest inshore fighters around. Spotted sea trout over 4 pounds are nothing big, some trout have been over 7 pounds. sheepshead, Pompano, Spanish Macks so big they look like small kings. And do not even get me started about the TARPON, weee doggy, Here comes the kings, just put new line on my tarpon rigs, nothing like 300 yards of 50 pound line screaming off a reel and a 100 plus pound fish jumping wildly… But also we get the Big jacks, 15 ,20 pounders on the beach, mix some 15 pound bonitas and you have a party. Just add something for them to eat.. Getting so excited talking about whats going on, if I was not in my pajamas and it being dark, I would go fishing…. Heck with it, the fish do not care what I am wearing and the boat is already hooked up. Hope this sends the first time, I am not waiting around to see it does…… Gone fishing……

Fishing is so hot right now, it is time.

Monday, April 12th, 2010

The time is now, we are having such great days fishing.. Pompano, spotted seatrout, bluefish, spanish macks, Redfish, the bigboys are comin, Tarpon and the ever great fighter Bonita both of these fish are 200 plus yard line rippers..The drags scream for mercy with these boys show up.. The reds are starting to school up. The white bait is in, the flats are getting hot with reds and snook, Great topwater explosions from the white bait action. This weekend is my first 2 days off together in a month. So many great smiles, sore arms, and “who just let out that girlie scream?” tho very few ever fess up to it. It is all so much fun. Is a great adventure for the kids, Turtles, dolphins, manatees. So funny to see a young one sit down after a fight and rub there arm and talk about how big the fish was..lol.. Temps in the 80s, give me a call lets go fishing….

Fishing is alot hotter then the weather.

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

Man I am excited, It has been so good fishing, alot of pompano, spotted sea trout, redfish, sheephead, a few spanish macks, alot of flounder. And all inside the bay. I had 6 yr olds reeling in slot redfish to 26 inches. Obcourse we were helping to hold the rod. But at times not sure who was going to win. And got to see so many new expressions during the struggle and strain,lol.. January is a great month for fishing and as far as fishing so far, it has been alot hotter then the weather. Never take chances, but if you can get in the bay safely, GO, find the protected areas from the wind. Work your presentation slow on the sand bottom and never pass up a deeper water dock in protected areas..

Friday, September 18th, 2009

It has been crazy good, have located a school of big reds in the bay. they have been in the same area for about 2 weeks. see them pushing/ raising the water in 2 feet of water. Then in the deeper water you will see that pretty penny color/shape easing around. Does not matter 2 rods 3 rods 4 rods.. Cast a broke tail white bait into it and it is a instant hookup. We are getting fish to 20 pnds.. The trout are great, blues spanish, ladyfish… They crush topwater plugs in the middle of the day.. some trout are pushing the 5 pound mark. When I get the meat hunters it is like man I have a hour of just fish cleaning,, lolol.. but it is all good glad to see the smiles and hear the talk of a great meal ahead…
